JNCIS-SEC

Passed.

Before I started labbing I failed.
After the labs I passed.

So buy some SRXs.

Good luck.

  1. And which SRXs did you buy? That may not be a realistic thing! And were there configurations on the exam?

  2. So, we got 2 SRX100B

SRX100B SRX services gateway 100 with 8xFE ports and base memory (On-board 1GB RAM w/ 512MB Accessible, 1GB FLASH). External power supply and cord included. SRX100 $699

699 if you are a partner or customer you can get X% off.
If not, then look at Ebay.

The above should clear you up for most of it.
The subscription items will not work for you.
For that you need Partner portal access.
    Like the https://virtuallabs.juniper.net/

However in general the certification is not looking for you to get 100%
I think the passing score was 70%. So if you pass it you will get more Juniper thrown at you and your knowledge will grow.

There were NO configurations on the exams.
The exam is not like the Cisco CCNA where you have labs or similar.
The exam is purely AB CD questions.

  3. I see. Thank you. I have taken the approved JNCIS-SEC course, and then took it a second time. However, I must say that every time that I've even taken the practice "pre-test," I don't even get the passing score yet. I come from a Cisco R&S background, and maybe part of the additional challenge that I am having is that this is now firewalls. Anyway, thank you, you're blog reinforces my studies.

  4. Hello Ryan,

I talked to 2 Juniper sales engineers and they have both failed it the first time.
I failed it the first time, my work colleague failed it the first time he is actually doing the second run today.

In general I suffered from the same problem as this is my first firewall and I have a background in Cisco which helps
    mess it up.

The use of the hardware firewalls definitely helps to pass the exam in my opinion.
You can also use them for passing the other Juniper certs. So I feel they are worth it.

If you are a partner, Juniper offers NFR ones "Not for resale".
If you are not, you can always buy them and recover the investment by getting a promotion :).

Also another thing that can help you is the safaribooksonline.
They have a book "Junos Security" it was a big help to me.
